All Is Well

Ever heard this phrase? All is well. In the world today I think it is said like this. ‘It’s Good.’ In Christian music it is said like this.”All is well with my soul”. It means that we have peace with God, that we are in a safe place spiritually or we are in a good place while in these mortal bodies. It is also subject to each persons interpretation. What is it in our spirit, soul and body that makes us individually say…”It’s Good or All Is Well.”

Romans 8 :28 …And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who are called according to his purpose.

I have always just accepted that this was a promise for anyone who had accepted Christ into their lives and it was a done deal. Joseph is an example of this. His brothers eliminated  him by beating him up and selling him to a caravan bound for Egypt. His placement in Egypt saved Israel from famine. His famous statement is “you meant it to me for evil but God meant it to me for good.” Good!? I am sure during his time there he did not feel it was a good thing; but in the end he felt it was a good thing.

Are you in a hard place that does not feel like a ‘good thing’; or have you been in a spot that did not seem like a good thing? Sometimes a persons whole life does not represent a good thing in their mind.

I was asked this week to look at my life, the hard places, the not so good places and see how God worked a good thing into my life. Yes, I could see His work; but I do not believe this work automatically takes place. It requires our cooperation. How? We will have to, sometime along the way, while in that hard place or position or spot we find ourselves in, surrender and trust. Then we will come out on the other side with a treasure given to us by Him. It could be a softer heart, a more understanding nature, perseverance (James 1:4), a more useful existence, or just getting a perspective that enriches our life.

Since we can not look into every ones soul and life there is no way of truly knowing; but I feel that I have know people, Christians that remain bitter, hurt, and never healed of the trauma they lived through.

So is it true? All things work together for the good? It is true. Whether an individual realizes it or not, God is at work. Apparently hard times lead us to Him and humble us before Him. When we look inside, if we are truly honest, we can see His work. Called according to His purpose. That purpose is to is to be like Him. The goal is accomplished when we trust and surrender during a trial.

All is well.
